“Back Into the Dream”, Elephant Stone

As the title of the sixth album by the Montreal orchestra Elephant Stone suggests, the notion of dreams has somewhere always inspired songwriter and leader Rishi Dhir. His conception of rock psychedelia has always seemed benevolent, colorful and melodious – more Beatles than old Pink Floyd -, for example offered on purpose since Dhir and his colleagues err on the end of the album with an excess of tabla and sitar, evoking even in the vocal harmonies (on the expansive The Imajinary, Nameless Everybody in the World, in particular) the transcendental pop of the Liverpuldiens freshly returned from their retreat with the yogi Maharishi Mahesh. The group’s influences are obvious, but Dhir’s writing, his flair for the refrains that become embedded, give all the relevance to the project, which will give us the opportunity to hear famous riffs guitar from the catchy Lost in a Dream, The Spark And Going Underground in opening. No risk of bad trip here: to see in concert on March 15 at the Pantoum de Québec and March 22 at the Outremont theater.
