“I believe that the longevity of the franchise Gremlins is attached to the key character Gizmo, who is essentially a baby, argued Dante at San Francisco Chronicle. Which of course brings me to Baby Yoda, which has been completely copied, shamelessly, in my opinion. The director was hired as a consultant for the animated series Gremlins: Secrets Of The Mogwai, which begins airing this summer on HBO Max. The series takes place in China, 60 years before the story of the original film released in 1984; it traces the first meeting between the young Sam Wing, then aged 10, and the little Mogwai Gizmo.

For their part, the leaders of Disney + and Lucasfilm preferred not to respond to the accusations of Joe Dante.

Grogu first appeared in 2019 in the series The Mandalorianbefore making a brief appearance in The Book of Boba Fettin early 2022. He will return alongside the Mandalorian Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, in the third season of the series, which will be broadcast from February 2023 on Disney+.
