A baby less than two months old died within the walls of the Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center (CHU) after contracting COVID-19.
The pediatric hospital establishment made the announcement on Friday afternoon in a press release. It mentions that the child, who was healthy at birth, was hospitalized in intensive care recently after contracting the disease. He succumbed to complications related to COVID-19 on Thursday.
“The CHU Sainte-Justine wishes to offer its most sincere condolences to the parents and the family of the infant”, indicates the establishment, which recalls that infants are more at risk of developing serious symptoms of COVID-19.
The establishment will not comment further on this case, which includes “highly confidential aspects”.
