First day of finals, and already a medal for France. The Tricolore Azeddine Habz went to win the bronze medal on Friday March 3 in the 1500m event at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul, which are to be followed exclusively until Sunday on france.tv.
It was the inevitable Jakob Ingebrigtsen, world record holder for the distance, who won in 3’33”95, championship record. Briton Neil Gourley took second place in 3’34”23, ahead of Habz, who finished the race in 3’35”39. The other Frenchman entered, Louis Gilavert, finished in sixth place.
Eighth European title for Ingebrigtsen
The Norwegian glutton, aged only 22, thus won an eighth European title on the track, the second consecutive on the indoor distance. Immense talent in the world middle distance, he is also Olympic champion in the 1500m and world champion in the 5000m in title. For Habz, it is a first international medal on the track, after podiums at the Euros cross country in mixed relay (2nd in 2021, 3rd in 2022).
