It’s almost a hit. Singer Zaho de Sagazan will leave these 39th Victoires de la Musique with four prizes. Driven by her first album, The symphony of lightning, the 24-year-old singer was cited in five categories: female revelation, stage revelation, album, original song and audiovisual creation (clip). Of these five nominations, Zaho de Sagazan won the titles in all categories except for best audiovisual creation. The 2024 list also sees the coronation of Aya Nakamura as female artist of the year. This live is now over.
Vianney and rapper Gazo rewarded as a duo. The jury was unable to decide between the two artists, with dazzling success in their respective genres. They are thus jointly named male artists of the year. Proof that rap and R&B artists, among the most listened to in France today, are finally represented.“For a few editions, we were starting to hear unpleasant things about the Victories, and rightly so. I myself felt things that were not right”assured Vincent Frèrebeau, president of the association which manages the event.
Details of the main prices. This year, no Angèle, Stromae or Orelsan to monopolize the awards. In their absence, the Victory for best audiovisual creation was awarded to Shay’s “Commando” clip. A Victory of Honor was awarded to Bernard Lavilliers. The Victory for best concert went to join the showcase of Belgian rapper Damso. As for the best male hopeful, it is the singer Yamê, 30 years old, who wins.
Rap and R&B much more visible. These genres, generally snubbed in the past, have never garnered so many major nominations at the Victoires de la Musique: Gazo in the category of male artist of the year, Aya Nakamura for female artist, Josman for album, Meryl for the female revelation and the stage revelation, Yamê for the male revelation, Damso and Bigflo & Oli for the concert, Shay for the audiovisual creation (clip).
Change in the selection process. The process for designating nominees has been thoroughly reviewed. The electoral body of the Victoires Academy (882 voters, now all professionals) only participates in the first round. The second is reserved for a jury of 32 professionals from which record companies (major and independent) as well as show producers are excluded. Eight artists, not affected by the prizes of the year in question, appear there, on the other hand, as do journalists, radio programmers, editorialists for musical platforms, and even festivals and venues in the provinces.
