Aya Nakamura takes a position in the second round of the legislative elections. “I am well placed to understand and know the place of racism in our country”she wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, July 2, before continuing: “On Sunday we will all go and vote, and against the only extreme to condemn because there is only one.”
“I am discreet on these subjects, sometimes we do not feel relevant and legitimate enough to speak and say the right things on areas that we master. [pas en verlan]. That doesn’t mean we don’t have an opinion, eh”she added. “Now I understand that my position as an artist requires me to speak out, because this is an important moment for all of us.”
Aya Nakamura has been the target of attacks since she was tipped to sing at the Games. The artist, whose album Nakamura has passed the billion listen mark on Spotify, has “perfectly at home in an opening or closing ceremony” of the Paris Olympics, Emmanuel Macron said in April. His possible presence at the Games has not been confirmed by the organizers, who have the final say on this matter.
