Faced with the avian flu epidemic affecting France, a vaccination test campaign began on Tuesday 10 May. Something to give hope to breeders. Report in the Landes.

In Horsarrieu (moors)the experiment on the vaccine against avian influenza began on Tuesday May 10 and should last eight months. This vaccine must be tested on nearly 2,000 palmipeds. Goal : measure the antibodies of vaccinated ducklings, to determine their resistance to further contamination.

This vaccination brings hope to professionals. “It’s a world first because vaccination on ducklings does not exist”explains Éric Dumas, president of the Interprofessional Committee of Palmipeds in Foie Gras. For their part, the defenders of free-range breeding hope not to be forgotten. Since November, more than 1,300 outbreaks of avian flu have occurred in French farms. 16 million poultry were culled, compared to a total of 3.5 million last year.
