The reopening of a major section of Avenue des Pins is delayed by a few weeks, on Plateau-Mont-Royal, in particular due to pedestrians who ventured into the fresh concrete.
The artery has been undergoing a transformation for several months and was to be completely vacated by workers at the end of September. It will finally be “in the week of October 16”.
“We have indeed made the decision to take over certain sidewalks which were vandalized during the concrete pours, despite the measures put in place on the site,” indicated Hugo Bourgoin, public relations officer at the City of Montreal.
“Although this situation is distressing, the delays caused remain minor and we will be able to reopen the street in the coming weeks. »
The notice sent to neighbors also mentions “supply problems”, weather issues and “various unforeseen events” to explain the delay.
“After the reopening of the street, certain occasional and partial obstacles are to be expected for the installation of permanent traffic lights and for corrective work,” adds the City.
Avenue des Pins has been undergoing major renovations since 2021. A first section, from Saint-Denis to Saint-Laurent, was the subject of work between 2021 and 2022. The second section, between Saint-Laurent and Parc, is completely blocked by a construction site since last fall.
The thoroughfare has been redeveloped to include protected bike lanes on both sides and much more greenery. A public square has been created at the Jeanne-Mance intersection.
