Avatar returns to cinemas. Released in 2009, the sci-fi film from director James Cameron will be back on the big screen on September 23 for two weeks.

Avatar will be presented in a 4K “high dynamic range” remastered version, a technology that offers more detail, announces Walt Disney Studios. This release precedes that ofAvatar: The Way of the Watera sequel that hits theaters December 16.

A new trailer for the original feature has just landed online. Avatar remains the highest-grossing film of all time, grossing $2.84 billion.

Written and directed by James Cameron, Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver. The three-time Oscar-winning film tells the story of a former marine in a wheelchair, recruited to go to Pandora, an exomoon where industrial groups exploit a rare mineral intended to solve the energy crisis on Earth. There he will meet the Na’vi, a people of blue humanoids who refuse to see their world ransacked.
