As soon as the critical embargo was lifted, Tuesday noon, the first reactions to the film began to fuse on social networks. E if we exclude some more mixed opinions in certain media, the new offering of the scenario writer James Cameron was entitled to a true concert of praises.

“Spending more than a decade pining for Pandora was worth it: Cameron delivered the biggest movie since, well, Avatar!” wrote the New York Post newspaper on Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Times talks about a new film “even more ambitious than the first” that will shut down all skeptics.

“James Cameron immerses us so deeply in his universe that sometimes we have the impression of not watching a film but rather of floating in it”, underlines the critic of the Los Angeles Times.

The same goes for Rolling Stones magazine, which does not hesitate to describe Avatar: The Way of the Water as “the most amazing cinematic journey” by James Cameron to date.

Opinions are also very favorable on the side of France, where the film opens this Wednesday.

“Cameron, a hydrophilic filmmaker, plunges back into the bath and relegates Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to the rank of a muddy aquarium. At the same time as the Sully family, the spectator discovers a fabulous marine bestiary”, writes Le Figaro newspaper.

Paris Match magazine was also blown away by the beauty of the universe deployed by James Cameron: “At a time when the collective and sacred experience of the cinema is being undermined by streaming platforms and new uses digital, Avatar: the way of the water offers a unique immersion, [et] gives a cinematographic meaning to the word wonder”, can we read there.

It remains to be seen now if Avatar: The Way of the Water will succeed in breaking new records at the box office…
