Automakers now required to display cars’ ‘carbon score’ in ads

It’s a small revolution in car advertising. From March 1, 2022, car manufacturers must display the “carbon score” of their car on each advertisement broadcast on television or in the cinema, according to information collected by franceinfo. It was already present in car dealerships or in car magazines. This change stems from the Climate Law.

Cars at the bottom of the scale emit 100 grams of CO2 per kilometer, the most polluting up to 2.5 times more. But this indicator only retains CO2 emissions, and not those emitted during the manufacture of the vehicle.

In 2020, almost 90% of cars purchased were at the bottom of the carbon score, between A and B, according to Ademe.
