In order to fill their labor shortage, businesses in the north of Lanaudière can count on the help of people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
This initiative of the Lanaudière Region Autism Society improves the autonomy of people aged 21 and over with ASD.
In total, around thirty people help companies in the fields of catering, manufacturing, industry, embroidery on clothing, in particular.
“Companies make us do certain tasks that need to be done, but since they don’t have the manpower, they turn to us,” explained Marie-Ève Desmarais, director of the organization.
They perform various unpaid tasks such as bagging chocolate, installing labels, assembling boxes, ordering, putting in order corporate clothing intended for commercial sale, wrapping merchandise on pallets, etc.
“They have a fairly interesting productivity rate,” said Mr.me Swamps. So it’s rewarding for the participants and it also helps businesses at the same time. ”
The initiative is also on track to progress in the coming years. “We have waiting lists for people with autism who want to participate and we want to develop in the south of the region by September 2022,” said Mme Swamps.
