Quebec television documentary projects rarely last long enough on the air for us to be able to observe the evolution of their subjects over a few years. There is the exception of the (very large!) Groulx family and that of the doctors at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital in On call 24/7, but, as a general rule, we lose sight of those people who embodied a particular reality and who moved us and made us think.
Some participants of‘Autistic, love and friendship, discovered in the series Autistic, coming of age soon and Autistic, now of age, are now one of those rare exceptions. In this section, which focuses on interpersonal relationships outside the family nest, we find, among others, Mathis, the son of Charles Lafortune, the latter still being the producer of the series, and Sophie Prégent. The non-verbal big guy is more discreet in this season, which highlights some of his acolytes (including Maëlle, freshly graduated), but also newcomers. Some are looking for romantic and friendly relationships that resemble them, others have found love, learn to cultivate it and make those who didn’t believe them capable of it lie.
In parallel with this exploration, which is still as delicate and moving, slips the subtleties, the difficulties and the splendours of these links woven outside the family nest. It will also discuss the situation of mothers of autistic adults and the great heartbreak and anxieties that torment them, again and again, even when their offspring have taken off. Another very nice smart, useful and warm TV.
