It was enough for Power to finish on the podium to be crowned for the second time after 2014.

American Josef Newgarden took second place in the season’s best driver ranking, and New Zealander Scott Dixon third. The latter aspired to glean a seventh crown to equal the record of AJ Foyt.

Power had obtained in California the 68e pole position of his career in IndyCar, thus beating the record of a legend of motorsport, the American Mario Andretti, 82, present to congratulate his successor.

This title of best driver won by Power is a tribute to consistency, since the Australian won only one race of the season, in Detroit, but managed to finish on the podium eight times.
