(Melbourne) Barbora Krejcikova became the first player to reach the fourth round at the Australian internationals in 2023 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Anhelina Kalinina at Rod Laver Arena, Friday.
The Czech ranked 20e seeded won the first five games of the encounter and dominated her Ukrainian opponent. Krecjikova hasn’t dropped a set in three matches.
Later in the fifth day of competition, the third seed in the men’s draw, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas will look to advance to the next round, as will the women’s favorite, Iga Swiatek.
Tsitsipas is the highest-ranked tennis player still active after the defeats of favorite and defending champion Rafael Nadal and number 2 Casper Ruud.
The 24-year-old Tsitsipas, a three-time semi-finalist in Melbourne, will face Tallon Griekspoor for the first time in his career.
Swiatek will dispute the victory with the Spaniard resulting from the qualifications Cristina Bucsa.
