(Melbourne) Karolina Pliskova has withdrawn from the Australian Open as well as two fitness tournaments, due to a right hand injury sustained in training.
The organizers of the major tournament announced the withdrawal of the Czech, also wishing her to recover quickly, on Twitter.
Ranked fourth in the WTA, Pliskova mentioned on social media that “unfortunately I got injured in training and won’t be able to play in Adelaide, Sydney and (Melbourne). ”
The 29-year-old has made two Grand Slam finals.
She lost to world number one Ash Barty at Wimbledon this year. In 2016, she suffered a loss in the ultimate match at Flushing Meadows, against Angelique Kerber.
Pliskova’s best run at Melbourne Park was making it to the semifinals in 2019. She lost to Naomi Osaka, who was going to be crowned.
The Australian Open will start on January 17th.
