After the United States, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced in turn, Wednesday, December 8, that his country would not send any representative of his government to the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

This decision comes in a context of “disagreement” with China on a number of issues ranging from Australian foreign interference laws to the recent decision to acquire nuclear-powered submarines.

“Australia will not go back on the strong position it has taken to defend its interests, and it is obviously not surprising that we do not send Australian officials to these Games.”

He also mentioned human rights violations in the Xinjiang region and Beijing’s reluctance to meet with Australian officials for discussions.

“Everyone does not care” whether or not Australia is sending official representatives to the Beijing Winter Olympics, Chinese diplomacy said in return.
