No precise date yet. It is “in the coming weeks”, said the Prime Minister, that vaccinated Australians and permanent residents will therefore be able to return home and travel abroad.
In any case, it is a decision Australians have been waiting for, mostly stranded on the continent since March 20, 2020, when Australia introduced some of the world’s toughest border restrictions, in response to the pandemic.
“What should change, testifies Élise Léger, adviser to French nationals living abroad in Sydney, is that the vaccinated people will no longer be subject to quotas, and that they will be able to carry out their quarantine at home, and no longer at their expense, at the hotel. “
The quarantine will also be reduced from 14 to seven days. But the measure only affects Australians and residents:
“It is absolutely not for tourists or young French students on a WHV, working holiday program, for example. We have absolutely no date for holders of temporary visas.”
This decision follows in any case the abandonment of Australia’s “zero Covid” strategy, which now vaccinates with a vengeance, but most states have not recorded any significant epidemic wave and intend to remain closed to the rest from the country.
