Australia | 10 dead and 11 injured in bus crash

(Sydney) Australian police announced on Monday that a coach crash had left 10 people dead and 11 injured in the Hunter wine region, north of Sydney.

The police said in a statement that the driver of the bus, a 58-year-old man, had been taken to hospital under police escort for examinations and analyses.

“The first elements of the investigation show that ten people died. Eleven were transported to a hospital by road and helicopter, and 18 passengers are unharmed,” said the police statement, which states that this assessment is only provisional.

Police were called shortly before midnight to the scene of the crash, at a crossroads near the small town of Greta.

According to local media, the bus was returning from a wedding reception at a nearby winery.

The Hunter is a very popular region for tourists.
