Auger-Aliassime beaten by Rublev in Rotterdam, Raonic surprises Bublik

Félix Auger-Aliassime, 28e in the ATP rankings, was defeated in the second round in Rotterdam on Wednesday, losing 3-6, 7-6 (6), 7-5 to second seed Andrey Rublev.

Champion of the tournament two years ago, the Quebecer was defeated in two hours and 36 minutes. There was only one break on each side.

Earlier on Wednesday, Canadian veteran Milos Raonic upset Kazakh Alexander Bublik 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals.

The 33-year-old scored an important break to make it 3-2 in the second set. He managed to keep the eighth seed at bay for the remainder of the clash with his powerful serve.

Five of Raonic’s 12 aces came after that break, including three in a row to make it 5-3 and another to set the table for match point.

Compatriot of Raonic, Denis Shapovalov saw his journey end in the round of 16, when he lost 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5) to Frenchman Gaël Monfils.

Raonic will have Monfils or the favorite Jannik Sinner as his next rival.
