Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime and his Swiss playing partner Dominic Stricker lost 6-4, 7-6 (4) to the favourites, Britain’s Jamie Murray and Czech Adam Pavlasek, in the first round of the doubles tournament in Gstaad, Switzerland.
Murray and Pavlasek quickly took a 6-2 lead in the second-set tiebreaker.
Aliassime and Strikcer responded with an ace and a return point to narrow the gap to 6-4, but the favourites did not flinch and wrapped up the match after 48 minutes of play.
Auger-Aliassime is 0-3 this year in doubles.
He will be the third seed in the singles draw at the clay-court tournament, and therefore has a bye into the second round, where he will face the winner of Tuesday’s clash between Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann and Bosnia’s Damir Dzumhur.
Auger-Aliassime plays singles and doubles at Roland Garros later this month, part of the Paris Summer Olympics.
