The risk of fire is very high in Aude, where on Tuesday July 2, around forty hectares were devastated in Sigean. The department is on orange alert.
Amidst the charred trees in Sigean, the Aude firefighters are particularly vigilant on Wednesday, July 3. The ground, still smoking, is inspected and cooled. The day before, the fire covered 35 hectares. Three Canadairs were mobilized, dropping very close to the A9 motorway. Using a drone, the firefighters are today trying to identify potential fire outbreaks, thanks to a thermal camera.
“We have hot spots at 80 degrees, and we are more than 12 hours after the fire started. So these could be places that must be a little underground, where there could have been a pile of wood that we did not necessarily see.”explains Anthony Sizorn, the commander of the rescue operations of the SDIS of Aude. The department is classified as high risk for forest fires. The fire will blow at more than 70 km/h, and the ground is very dry. In the afternoon, 14 tanker trucks will be deployed in the department.
