Auchan Retail France and its Corsican franchisee, Rocca, are buying the Casino stores on the island and retaining all of the employees, France Bleu RCFM learned on Saturday June 22 from a source close to the matter. An agreement was reached Friday evening between the two groups, after a week of negotiations.

On June 14, the Casino group announced that it was entering into exclusive negotiations with the Auchan Retail France and Rocca groups with a view to the sale of its subsidiary Codim 2, which operates several points of sale in Corsica including four hypermarkets and nine supermarkets. The turnover excluding taxes of Codim 2 amounts to 332 million euros in 2023.

“It’s a relief, the day is dawning, it’s the end of the uncertainty”, reacts Patricia Grimigni of the CGT on France Bleu RCFM. All activities, employees and support functions will be taken over and continued under the Auchan brand.

The project must still be presented to staff representative bodies and go before the competition authority. The amount of the sale has not been communicated at this stage.
