Ten years that Abbé-Deschamps had been waiting for this. AJ Auxerre won their first home success of the season against Strasbourg (1-0), Saturday August 27, on behalf of the 4th day of Ligue 1. Gaëtan Perrin’s only goal was enough for the Burgundians to confirm their good start to the season. Without ideas, Racing floundered and still does not take off.

It is not said that the promoted Auxerre will survive a season marked by four relegations. Whatever its fate in May, it’s a safe bet that this AJA will retain its panache throughout the year. On Saturday, Jean-Marc Furlan’s players entertained the Abbé-Deschamps for sixty minutes. Their sequences disturbed the Strasbourg defense, until Perrin converted a good serve from Sinayoko with a cross shot from the left (29th).

Deprived of several offensive assets (Da Costa, Charbonnier and Niang) and physically blunted, the Auxerrois then retreated to proceed against. Despite the clear situations for Gameiro or Ajorque, they held on. A week after their victory in Montpellier, they scored a second precious success to validate an encouraging start to the season. The Icaunais are provisionally fifth.

Permeable in the first three games – seven goals conceded – the rearguard of AJA was solid. If Benoît Costil kept his clean sheet, a first in thirty games, he owed it to a few parades, but also to the clumsiness of the Strasbourg attackers.

Out of inspiration, the Alsatians have never been able to materialize their possession of the ball (58%). Their conquering face of last year seems a long way off. After four outings, Strasbourg has still not won and will end the day in the red zone.
