A firearm that may have been used in the attempted assassination of Leonardo Rizzuto was found in Laval on Wednesday by the National Organized Crime Squad.
This finding follows two arrests that occurred in this investigation over the past week.
On March 15, Leonardo Rizzuto, youngest son of the late Montreal mafia godfather Vito Rizzuto, was shot in the middle of rush hour in Laval, around 4:30 p.m. He was then alone in a vehicle on the highway. 440 West, near Highway 13.
He was hit by two projectiles, and suffered wounds to his legs and shoulder.
Police officers from the National Organized Crime Squad (ENRCO) went to the scene on Wednesday, on Montée Champagne, near the intersection with Avenue des Bois, in the Sainte-Dorothée district.
There, they found a firearm, as first reported by the Montreal Journal. According to our information, it seems that this weapon is the one used against Rizzuto a month and a half ago.
Two arrests in a few days
This is a new step in the investigation into this attempted murder. Monday morning, ENRCO police officers arrested a 34-year-old man from Rivière-des-Prairies. Although he is known to the police, he has no criminal record.
According to our information, however, it is a relative of Kevin Rochebrun, who was arrested last week in the same case. 32-year-old Kevin Rochebrun had already been sentenced to three years in prison in the past after the failed attack on Montreal mobster Marco Pizzi.
“He is one of the individuals who would be directly involved in the attempted murder,” he told The Press a police officer from the Sûreté du Québec after this arrest.
Police say individuals in two Porsche Macan SUVs, one red and the other black, were involved in the attack.
