ATP Ranking | Medvedev remains number 1

(Paris) Despite his defeat on Sunday in the final of the Halle tournament, on German grass, the Russian Daniil Medvedev remains world No.1 in the ATP ranking published on Monday, in which only a Frenchman, Gaël Monfils, appears in the Top 50 for the first time since February 2005.

The Pole Hubert Hurkacz, winner in Halle, gains two places and returns to the Top 10.

Hurkacz takes the 10e place for the Italian Matteo Berrettini, who kept his crown on the London lawn of Queen’s but fell back to 11e rank, losing a place like Briton Cameron Norrie (12e).

As for the Serbian Filip Krajinovic, unfortunate finalist at Queen’s, he will console himself with a good progression, from 48e at the 31e place in the ATP rankings.

No other notable change is to be reported at the top of the world hierarchy, Hurkacz having outclassed Medvedev, furious Sunday against his French coach Gilles Cervera, and dispatched this final 6-1 6-4.

It’s the 5e title on the ATP circuit for the 25-year-old Pole, after Winston-Salem then Metz in 2019, the Miami Masters 1000 and the Delray Beach tournament in 2021, all on hard courts, which had allowed him to occupy the 9e world place at the end of last year. It is the very first on grass, a few days before the start of Wimbledon.

Behind Medvedev, the German Alexander Zverev retains his place as runner-up ahead of the Serbian Novak Djokovic and the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who will soon become a father and whose very painful foot at Roland-Garros is much better, a-t- he indicates.

Unhappy finalist in Paris, against Nadal, the Norwegian Casper Ruud remains 5e ahead of Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and Spanish prodigy Carlos Alcaraz, 19. Like last week, Canadian Denis Shapovalov and Argentinian Diego Schwartzman trade 15e and 16e squares, but in the other direction.

On the French side, if Gaël Monfils, package at Roland-Garros, gains a place and becomes 23 againehe is therefore the only tricolor representative in the Top 50, for the first time in 17 years.

This unprecedented situation since February 13, 2005 is explained by the biggest fall of the week in the ATP ranking, that of Ugo Humbert, from the 50e at the 103e square.

Eliminated at 2e turn in Halle by Hurkacz, Humbert lost half of the 1,000 points he earned last year by winning the final of the German tournament.

Among the seven other French members of the Top 100, Benjamin Bonzi, 56e (-4), and Arthur Rinderknech, 61e (-6), regress, while Hugo Gaston, 65e (+2), and Richard Gasquet, 69e (+4), regained a few places.
