ATP Ranking | Carlos Alcaraz takes over the world number 1 spot from Novak Djokovic

(Paris) Carlos Alcaraz, winner of his first grass tournament on Sunday at Queen’s, took the opportunity to take over the world number one spot from Serbian legend Novak Djokovic, in the ATP rankings published on Monday, less than a week from Wimbledon.

The crossover continues on the throne between the two cadors of world tennis: Alcaraz, who had started the year with the crown on his head, recovers it for the 3e times since January, reaping the benefits of his title at the Queen’s ATP 500 tournament.

Dislodged at the beginning of the month by “Nole”, winner of his 23e Grand Slam at Roland-Garros, the Murcian, who last year at 19 became the youngest world number one in history, is now 80 points ahead of his rival.

And by winning a first title on grass on Sunday – for his third tournament only on this surface – Carlos Alcaraz was full of confidence before launching an assault on Wimbledon (July 3-16), where the defending champion is called… Djokovic.

The other tenors of the circuit have a hard time following: the Russian Daniil Medvedev remains comfortably installed at 3e rank, ahead of the Norwegian Casper Ruud and the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, but more than 1,500 points behind the leading duo.

Forced to retire in the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 tournament in Halle (Germany), the Italian Jannik Sinner still won a place, passing 8e ahead of the American Taylor Fritz (9e).

In the top 20the main beneficiary is the Australian Alex de Minaur, who comes out of a good week at Queen’s, where he was only beaten in the final by Alcaraz.

With the second title of his career on the main circuit in Halle (Germany), the Kazakh Alexander Bublik, 26, obtains his best ranking (26e+22).
