The ATP and WTA take it to the next level. The two organizations that manage the men’s and women’s professional tennis circuit announced on Friday 20 May that they would not distribute any points at the next Wimbledon tournament if the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian players due to the war in Ukraine is maintained.
“If nothing changes, it is with immense regret and reluctance that we see no other option but to withdraw the ATP points at Wimbledon for the 2022 edition.“, announces the ATP in a press release.

The British Grand Slam tournament announced on April 20 its intention to exclude Russians and Belarusians from the 2022 edition because “in the circumstances of unjustified and unprecedented military aggression, it would be unacceptable for the Russian regime to derive any benefit from the participation of Russian or Belarusian players“.
The major on grass had however specified that this decision, generally very criticized in the world of tennis, could be reviewed if the “circumstances change drastically by June“.
However, the organizers of Wimbledon were quick to react on Friday evening, notably expressing their “deep disappointment“. The fact of not awarding the points is, according to them, “disproportionate in the context of the exceptional and extreme circumstances of the situation“.
