Atlético qualified, Real first in his group … what to remember from the European evening

For the stake, it was not the evening of the century. At the show level, either. While the dice were already thrown in several groups before the kickoff of this sixth day of the Champions League, the last answers were given on Tuesday, December 7.

In groups A and D, the qualified teams were already known. On the other hand, in groups C, and especially D, things could still change.

Group B: the stunning Atlético

On an evening of little interest, this was the group to follow. Already in the lead and qualified, Liverpool ensured its flawlessness in the competition by going for victory in Milan (1-2). With a reshuffled squad, the Reds eliminated the Rossoneri, who were engaged in a three-way ballet with Porto and Atlético Madrid.

Precisely in this other group D match, it was the Madrilenians who won their ticket to the knockout stages. By beating Porto (1-3), thanks to Antoine Griezmann author of a goal and an assist. The Colchoneros beat their competitors on the gong while they were still eliminated at half-time. Simeone’s men finished second, ahead of Porto, moved back to the Europa League.

Group D: Real king of his group

It was a final. Leader at the start of the match, Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid managed to keep their lead over Inter Milan. After their victory in the first leg in Italy (0-1), Real took cover (2-0). Achievements from Kroos and Asensio allow the Spaniards to finish at the top of the group. They are part of the teams that PSG could face in the round of 16. Inter finished the group stage in second place.

The positions were already frozen in the other group match. Assured to finish third and therefore to play the finals of the Europa League, Sheriff Tiraspol snatched the draw on the lawn of Shakhtar Donetsk (1-1).

Group A and C: evening without supense

If you were looking for suspense, these were the groups to avoid since the qualifiers were already known at kickoff.

In Group A, Manchester City conceded a defeat (1-2) against RB Leipzig. A setback with no impact in the standings since the Citizens were certain to finish in the lead. For its part, Leipzig secures the third position behind Paris, synonymous with the Europa League. PSG took place against Club Bruges (4-1) and ended on a good note.

At the same time, the evening of Group C allowed forwards Sébastien Haller and Erling Haaland to heal their statistics. The Ivorian striker is now ten goals scored in this European campaign. His Ajax team confirmed their first place (4-2 victory against Sporting Portugal, second). As for the Norwegian, he scored twice after leaving the bench, completing the success of Borussia Dortmund (5-0) against Besiktas. The Germans will play the Europa League.
