(Montreal) AtkinsRéalis announces that it has won a contract as part of the construction project for the new bridge linking Île d’Orléans to Quebec City.
The financial conditions of the contract were not specified Tuesday by the company.
As part of a consortium, the company formerly known as SNC-Lavalin will oversee the design of roads, interchanges, approach spans, landscaping and related works on both banks of the river Saint Laurent.
The president of AtkinsRéalis Canada, Stéphanie Vaillancourt, highlighted that the company had already contributed to several projects in the Capitale-Nationale such as the Videotron Center, the Jean-Lesage International Airport and the new hospital complex of the Hôpital de ‘Child Jesus.

“It is once again a pleasure to put all of our expertise at the service of this signature project for the region,” she said in a press release.
The new construction will replace the existing one with a 2.1 kilometer cable-stayed bridge. This will be located just west of the current structure which was inaugurated in 1935.
The project also includes a new interchange on the north bank and road reconstruction work.
Last week, the Quebec Ministry of Transport (MTQ) indicated that the cost of constructing the new road link is now estimated at 2.75 billion. The bill will be entirely covered by the Quebec government.
Its entry into service is scheduled for 2028. According to the MTQ, nearly 12,000 vehicles use the current suspension bridge every day, on average, a number that rises to 15,000 during the summer period.
