(Montreal) The AtkinsRéalis Group announced that it has signed an agreement with Network Rail, owner of the British railway infrastructure, to help it modernize and digitize its signaling over the next 10 years.
Network Rail has launched a £4bn programme to modernise signalling across its network over the next decade.
The engineering services company says the upgrade will bring greater reliability across the country, all thanks to a mix of traditional signalling and digital control.
AtkinsRéalis claims to have obtained two of the eight contracts awarded.
“Our expertise in conventional and digital signalling enables us to help increase the reliability and efficiency of the UK rail network, supporting the industry’s transformation towards a more sustainable and efficient future,” said Ian Edwards, President and CEO of AtkinsRéalis, in a statement.
The Canadian company formerly known as SNC-Lavalin will work independently on the conventional signalling contract.
AtkinsRéalis will also partner with Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, SA (CAF) in a new joint venture on a digital signaling contract.
At 1 p.m., AtkinsRéalis’ stock price was down 1.04% at $49.65.
