(Montreal) AtkinsRéalis, formerly known as SNC-Lavalin, announces that it has won the engineering contract for a green hydrogen production project in Mauricie.
This is a new step for this 4 billion initiative known as “Projet Mauricie”, developed by the company TESCanada H2.
The latter proposes to build a green hydrogen production plant in Shawinigan, north of Trois-Rivières, which will be powered exclusively by renewable electricity.
Green hydrogen is a term given to low-carbon hydrogen that can be used to reduce reliance on fossil fuels in industry and heavy transportation.
The “Mauricie Project” is expected to produce up to 70,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen, making it one of the largest clean hydrogen projects in Canada as well as one of the largest decarbonization projects announced in Quebec to this day.
Construction of the project should begin in 2026 with commissioning scheduled for 2028.
