(Eugene) Canadian Marco Arop finished first in his heat and easily qualified for the semi-finals of the 800 meters at the World Championships in Athletics on Wednesday evening.

The fourth runner in the world crossed the finish line in 1 minute and 44.56 seconds. This is also the fastest time of all wave qualifiers.
In his qualifying heat, Arop’s compatriot Brandon McBride suffered a crash through contact and finished well behind the pack.
The men’s 800-metre semi-finals are scheduled for Thursday.
Also on Wednesday, Canada’s Elizabeth Gleadle qualified for the javelin throw final.
His throw of 60.38 meters allowed him to climb to seventh place in qualifying. The top 12 athletes secured their ticket to Friday’s final.
