AthletesCAN demands an action plan from Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton

AthletesCAN, Canada’s association for national team athletes, is calling on Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton (BCS) to determine a clear election process after the national federation abruptly ended its last stormy annual general meeting.

BCS athletes are trying to push out Sarah Storey, chair of the board and current president of the national federation. Storey abruptly ended the last annual general meeting and left the meeting held in Calgary on September 29th.

AthletesCAN attended this meeting as an independent observer. The organization now requires “a transparent action plan clearly determining the chosen electoral process”.

For AthletesCAN, the incidents that occurred during the BCS General Assembly are another example for athletes from national federations, who do not feel supported or listened to by BCS.

Storey and high performance director Chris Le Bihan have faced criticism in recent months from athletes who want to condemn a “toxic climate and instances of abuse” within the organization.

BCS, in a Sept. 30 statement sent to The Canadian Press, says the organization has received credible information suggesting irregularities in voter eligibility verification by provincial federations.

The general assembly was then suspended for approximately 90 minutes, the time that the national federation discusses with its lawyers. The Board of Directors then recommended the adjournment of the meeting.
