Many French athletes left their usual political neutrality to call for votes against the extremes and against the far right on Monday June 17.

They decided not to stay out of the game any longer. Often cautious when it comes to politics, many athletes spoke out against the rise of the far right before the legislative elections. At a press conference on Monday June 17, Thierry Henry notably called for “go vote” For “blocking extremes”. Before him, Kylian Mbappé came out of his silence. “We have the opportunity to choose the future of our country,” declared the captain of the France team.

A collective of 200 French athletes also called to vote against the National Rally in the early legislative elections. Among them are Yannick Noah, former athletes Marie-José Pérec and Monique Ewanje-Epée, sailors Isabelle Autissier and François Gabart. “Today, we are behind, on the verge of losing the match. But we still have a few days of extra time to react”, demands the press release. Kylian Mbappé suggested on Sunday June 16 that the entire French team was considering collective action against the extremes.
