Valérie Lemercier succeeds in her reconversion as a star of the song: “Aline”, her true-false biopic of Celine Dion, took the head of the French box office, with nearly 600,000 spectators in its first week of operation.
The film, in which Valérie Lemercier plays the Quebec mega-star from 7 to 50 years old, makes the third best start of the year for a French film, behind “Kaamelot” and “OSS117: Red alert in black Africa”, according to CBO Box Office.
It dethrones the last Marvel super-production, “The Eternals”, which gathered 470,000 spectators for its second week of operation. Signed Chloé Zhao, Oscar winner for “Nomadland”, the film interpreted in particular by Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek, juggles with a multitude of main characters and lasts 2h37. It has attracted 1.24 million spectators since its release.
He is ahead of “Die can wait”, the last James Bond with Daniel Craig, still in the Top 3 after six weeks on the screens (nearly 200,000 fans this week, 3.8 million in total). Another superhero film follows, “Venom: Let There Be Carnage”, then another novelty, in fifth position, the latest film by and with Clint Eastwood, “Cry Macho” (126,000 spectators).
