Without the stuntmen, no chase or perilous scenes in the cinema. In France, the trade is learned near Lille (North) by men and women, who take risks, but calculated.

His face may not ring a bell to you, but you know his doubt about his footwork and his very personal sense of touch. Sarah Belala is a stuntwoman, with an arm-length CV: Brutus vs. Caesar, Mission Impossible or the last Marvel production. In ten years of career, nearly fifty films and series display his name in the casting. “You don’t have to be a real fighter, but if you have the right attitude and the right gesture, it will work in the image”, she explains.

When not kicking, Sarah Belala gives advice to apprentice stuntmen. Behind each fight actually hide several days, even several weeks of work. A repetition sometimes closer to dance than martial arts. Lilou Ruel, one of the stuntwoman’s students has just turned 18. This high-level athlete has only been discovering the profession for three days, but she already imagines herself professional. For 6,000 euros, a school located near Maubeuge, in the Hauts-de-France, offers twenty-week training over two years. You learn to hold a sword, jump, slide, fall, and sometimes even fly.
