Is there a “glucksmania”? The latest polls give a smile to the socialists who increasingly believe in a breakthrough for Raphaël Glucksmann, their candidate in the European elections on June 9. The MEP, candidate for a union between the PS and its small party Place publique, was at a meeting on Sunday March 24 in Tournefeuille, near Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), among activists who want to go even further.

The exercise of selfies is a little shy for Raphaël Glucksmann, but activists are totally behind it. “It gives you lots of hope”one advances. “Someone healthy, simple, sincere and honest”, estimates another. At the entrance to the room, an indicator galvanizes: “Inevitably, the polls”, replies an activist. Between 11 and 13% voting intentions in the polls for the MEP with thousands of subscribers on social networks.

“We are going to surpass Macron’s list”

Rubens and Lucas, young socialists from the Rhône, feel themselves growing wings. “The most important thing for us is to surpass Valérie Hayer’s list”launches first. “We are the useful vote on the left, affirms the second. We are the first left-wing party in the polls, we are going to surpass Macron’s list, we are going to get 18%, we believe in it. There’s a real dynamic behind it all.”

And Rubens already has his unstoppable campaign argument: “In the European Parliament, the Socialist Party and Place Publique are in the Socialists & Democrats (S&D) group, which can influence arbitration and negotiations. The groups of ecologists and rebels are often ultra-minority groups.” Except that left-wing MEPs often vote together, regardless of their party.
