They and they will enter 3rd at the start of the next school year and will already come the time of the first choices of orientation. These students from a college in Mourenx who are wondering about health professions wanted to ask their questions directly to professionals. They had the idea of ​​organizing a meeting in “speed dating” mode and asked the staff of the Pau hospital. “It was they who chose to contact the Pau hospital. The whole process was done by them, we were just there to guide them, correct mistakes when they sent letters and to prepare them for phone calls with professionals.“, explains Manuela Fonséca, teacher at the Pierre Bourdieu college in Mourenx.

Surgeons, doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, midwives, stretcher bearers, but also administrative and technical staff, in all, thirty professionals mobilized to meet these young people in need of information and full of questions. Training, wages, working conditions, all topics were discussed. The opportunity for these staff to restore the image of a badly treated hospital sector which attracts less and less young people. “We often hear that it is a difficult job, of course, but it is a very beautiful job that must be valued as much as possible.“, explains Stéphanie Weber, nurse addictologist, seduced by this new approach.

The college students left with answers to their questions, and some already confirmed in their choices, like Louane who was able to chat with representatives of a profession that makes her dream: “Later, I would like to study to become a midwife. And in fact, it interested me a lot that they tell us about their journey and what they do here on a daily basis. When you get up and tell yourself that the day you will help people, it’s important and it’s touching“.
