At the Giniès estate, vines with a view of Mont Ventoux

File: Summer meetings

Family farm located in Piégon, in the South Drôme, on the border with the Vaucluse department, the Giniès estate produces apricots, olives and grapes, transformed into wine by the winemaker Rémi Weinreich. An estate at the heart of the new Côtes du Rhône village – Nyons appellation.

On the label of the wines of the Giniès estate is represented an olive tree. Only one. It is a graphic image of an old tree located in the middle of a plot, overhanging the property, a few hundred meters above sea level. This olive tree is the only survivor of a major climatic hazard that hit the region almost 70 years ago, with the change, in a few days, from +25° to -20°. A big difference in the thermometer that cost the lives of many trees, and caused some farmers to change their culture. This is what happened at the Giniès estate, where vines were planted. Today, Rémy Weinreich takes care of the vines and the vinification, his brother Julien manages the olive and apricot trees. Both are supported by Chantal, their mother. A beautiful family story and good products.
