Thousands of people gathered on Sunday, September 22, for the funeral of Ibrahim Aqil, in the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold. The number 3 of the Shiite movement was killed Friday in an airstrike carried out by Israel that left a total of 45 dead, including 3 children. But the determination of the supporters of the Shiite movement does not weaken.

The coffin, wrapped in the yellow Hezbollah flag, is carried by the crowd under the gaze of Ali, dressed all in black: “Ibrahim Aqil was the strongest and for Israel, he was the most dangerous. He was greatly admired.”

The slogans are in praise of the Shiite movement and hostile to Israel. “What we want is for the Hebrew state to withdraw from the Gaza Strip, said Sajeel, his face serious. If he continues his war, we will continue our attacks until victory, until the last drop of our blood.”

The procession is a sea of portraits of Ibrahim Aqil. His death will not go unpunished, according to Madjid, a leader of the Shiite Amal party, an ally of Hezbollah: “We are at war and all options are on the table. Netanyahu will not escape the punishment that awaits him and if he decides to set foot on our soil we say to him ‘welcome, you will see the flames of hell’.”

This is also what Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, has promised, as it is actively preparing for a new escalation in its war against Israel.
