At the Dôme de Paris, an urban opera on the life of Molière by Dove Attia, with dialogues in rap and slam

The musical “Molière, the urban opera” will be performed at the Dôme de Paris from November 11 until February 18, 2024, before going on tour.

Molière. The urban opera is a musical comedy of a special kind. It is a musical show which brings together singers, slammers, rappers, dancers, actors and musicians on stage in 17th century settings and costumes. Its author Dove Attia, specialist in the genre, has chosen to revisit the story of Molière, a monument of French literature.

After Mozart the Rock Opera, The sun King and the Ten Commandments, Molière, the Urban Opera is Dove Attia’s new challenge. “It’s great entertainment, like all my old shows. We come, we’re amazed, we travel through time, but we also send messages, we say who Molière was and his works, but always for a popular audience“, he explains.

The first show will take place on November 11 at the Dôme de Paris. A real challenge for the whole team, because the start of the school year is busy and competitive with the return of cult musicals like West Side Story Or Mama Mia.

The energy of a young troop

With nearly 30 different artists, 250 homemade costumes and sumptuous sets, the show is directed by Ladislas Chollat. At his side, choreographer Romain Rachline Borgeaud works on the dance of the show: “I’m not at all into a dance aesthetic of the period because it’s quite limited, baroque dance. So we are in something very current, but telling something that is pass at another time.

The troupe is mainly made up of young dancers and singers who will rap or slam the dialogues. This young team exudes a very particular excitement according to PETiTOM, singer and dancer who embodies Molière : Molière is a troop leader. The success he experienced was with a whole troop. It’s an honor for me to work with such a close-knit team and I thrive on all this energy.
