Founded in Paris in 1938, the FIAF brings together the most important institutions on the planet dedicated to cinematographic heritage.
The director general of the CQ, Marcel Jean, said he was happy to see that his institution’s candidacy had been “enthusiasticly received”.
“Welcoming the delegates is for us a way of thanking the FIAF for having supported the development of the Cinémathèque since its foundation in 1963,” he said in a press release. We want this convention to be a showcase for our dynamism and the synergy between public and private institutions that make Montreal a great city of cinema. »
The CQ aims to hold the congress in early May 2025. Between 200 and 300 participants are expected. Symposium, forum, various meetings, cultural visits and special screenings are planned on the program. The meeting, which should last six days, will also be the occasion to hold the FIAF’s annual general meeting.
It should also be mentioned that Marcel Jean will receive on Monday, at the CQ, the insignia of Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic. The presentation of this award was announced in the summer of 2021 by Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, Minister of Culture of France, to salute Mr. Jean’s contribution to the influence of French animated films in Quebec.
