The key word is missing in the title of this recording of symphonic versions: Lyon. As in: the beautiful Auditorium of Lyon. As in: Lyon National Orchestra. As in Biolay, artist from Lyon. It is the glue of the affair, a true return to the point of origin, a rare opportunity to revisit and celebrate a repertoire. Because we are not very keen on the “popular” symphonic in France. In our country, from Pierre Lapointe to Lisa LeBlanc, everyone is entitled to it. There, it borders on the invasion of territories. Biolay seems prim in context, as if the tailcoat were usurped. Proud and terrified. Yet, Volver as much as The belt Or The superb lend themselves quite well to sumptuousness. The arrangements of conductor Dirk Brossé do not seek originality, limiting themselves for all audacity to a transposition into cinematographic mode, launching Lyon peninsula into a spaghetti western ride. The orchestra quickly returns to the corral. We wonder what a Nézet-Séguin would have dared.
