At the Annecy High Five Festival, ski resorts are looking for seasonal workers this winter

the accommodation fan of sliding? Why don’t you go to work in the resort this winter? This is a bit of what the Pôle Emploi in Annecy and the employers of the ski resorts are offering this weekend. They put down their suitcases at the High Five Festival, an event dedicated to sliding and mountain sports which takes place until this Sunday on the shores of Lake Annecy, with the hope of recruiting the hundreds of seasonal workers from whom they have need for this winter season.

Housing, a barrier to recruiting seasonal workers

In the Haute-Savoie resorts of Grand Bornand, La Clusaz and Saint-Jean-de-Sixt alone, at least 300 positions are to be filled. “Why not become a skiwoman or work in a ski shop” asks Emma, 20, who has just finished her studies in computer science. “It may interest me because I have been skiing for a long time“, continues the Annecy, who is looking for work and who stopped in front of the stand of Pôle Emploi. On the other hand, it requires finding accommodation in the resort and generally it is not cheap...”

This is also what makes Maxime doubt, interested in a position in Grand-Bornand. He would like to stay in the region, but maybe has a touch to go work as a boom operator in Austria. “Stayed, one meal a day, a thirteenth, a fourteenth and even a fifteenth month, and then having the accommodation included in the contract is just perfect“, explains the 26-year-old Haut-Savoyard.

Pôle Emploi works with the stations to find solutions

You really have to show employers that you have to work on these subjects“says Sophie Passetemps, director of the Annecy employment center. “80% of seasonal workers do not come from the department, so on job offers, it is often housing that makes the difference. So we work with employers to try to find solutions, that they sometimes cover part or all of the housing costs of seasonal workers. Some do and have no problem recruiting.

It is up to us, employers, to put things in place to meet expectations“, continues for his part Océane Toffoli, in charge of recruitment at La Satelc, the company which manages the ski lifts in La Clusaz.
