You don’t know how to recycle your Christmas tree? In Loire-Atlantique, an animal park has set up an initiative that is as original as it is ecological.

The Legendia Parc animal park, in Frossay (Loire-Atlantique), has just closed its doors to the public for four weeks. Until January 15, however, it is possible to leave your old tree there. Alain came from a neighboring town. “We try to be careful with waste”, he explains. Natural trees, without decoration or artificial snow, will experience a second life. “We’re going to put it all over the place, we’re going to throw it at the elk, bears, bison”, explains Nicolas Coussi, co-animal manager of Legendia Parc.

Of the 500 animals in the park, some species are crazy about conifers. American bison, in particular. “They can munch on the trees to eat the bark of the trees, so that allows them to make a little contribution. And to rub their horns against”, explains Nicolas Coussi. Fir trees are a diverse source of food, but also of games. Goats, as well as raccoons or deer, will benefit for a few weeks. “The goal is to be able to break a daily life and a routine”, adds the specialist. In 2021, 200 conifers were recycled within the enclosure of the animal park.
