At least three workers were killed when scaffolding collapsed on a 19-story building under construction in Switzerland, police said Friday. Eight people were also injured, four of them seriously.
The scaffolding collapsed shortly before 9:30 a.m. – local time in Prilly – on the outskirts of Lausanne, causing the workers who were working on it to fall. The cause of the accident is not yet known, said the spokesperson for the cantonal police, who announced that the public prosecutor’s office had opened an investigation. “There are still one or two people missing”the spokesperson added to AFP.
Construction workers at the building site told AFP there had been no other safety issues so far. The men, who spoke on condition of anonymity, suggested that too much weight in the freight elevator may have caused the accident.
