At least three people, including a child, died and five others were injured in a Russian strike in the southern city of Mykolaiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday, July 19. The strike “touched a playground near a residential building”he said on Telegram. The Ukrainian president, who once again denounced “terror” Russian, accompanied his press release with several photos showing a building with windows blown out on several floors.
“New solutions are needed to support our defense”insisted Volodymyr Zelensky, who is currently traveling in the United Kingdom. He tirelessly demands from his Western allies more anti-aircraft defense systems to allow them to intercept in greater numbers the numerous Russian missiles and drones, which strike the country’s cities every day.
The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Senkevich, confirmed the provisional death toll of three in this Russian bombing, which hit “a residential area”, he said. Mykolaiv, located just over 50 km from the Dnieper River, constitutes the front line between the Ukrainian and Russian armies in this area. It is usually spared from attacks by Moscow’s forces, especially since kyiv’s recapture of the large neighboring city of Kherson in November 2022.
