At least five migrants, including a child, died during an attempt to cross the Channel on the night of Monday April 22 to Tuesday April 23 at Wimereux beach (Pas-de-Calais).
The attempt to cross the Channel to reach the United Kingdom has turned into a nightmare for migrants. Of the 112 passengers, five people died at sea, off Wimereux beach (Pas-de-Calais). The Osmose association, which helps them, knew the family of a 7-year-old girl, whose lifeless body was found. “The father fell into our arms earlier”reports Dany Patoux, volunteer with the migrant aid association Osmose 62.
Panic movement
Last night, the sea was calm and the wind moderate. But according to the prefecture, the inflatable migrant boat hit a sandbank before leaving. A panic then occurred in the overloaded boat. “112 migrants, this is unheard of”, deplores Jacques Billant, prefect of Pas-de-Calais. Since the start of January, 15 people have died in the Channel.
