43,000 hectares have already been burned in Chile this Sunday, February 4. The human toll has worsened, with at least 51 deaths reported.

For several days, flames several tens of meters high have ravaged certain areas of Chile. This forms large clouds of smoke, the inhabitants have to flee under an apocalypse sky. The state of exception has just been declared by the government. Distraught, some helpless families watch their region burn. “It was terrifying! Never in my life had I felt so afraid in such a situation”testifies a resident.

The Chilean president under pressure

According to the latest official report, 51 people lost their lives in these historic fires. Between 3,000 and 6,000 houses were ravaged by the flames. In a district of Quilpué, the owners take inventory of the damage, with heavy hearts, pointing the finger at the government’s responsibility. “The authorities are responsible. They must be concerned about their communities but here, nothing!”, explained a resident. Under pressure, the Chilean president flew over the disaster zone on Saturday, February 3, where 43,000 hectares have already gone up in smoke. The human toll could rise further in the coming hours.
